BALIK PULAU, December 25 — YB Zairil Khir Johari, the State Executive Councillor for Infrastructure, Transport, and Digital, visited the construction site of a new 60-meter communications tower in Tanjung Asam, Balik Pulau. This project is a collaboration between the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the Penang State Government to fulfill the vision of “Where There’s a Road, There’s Internet.”

The tower, expected to begin operations on December 29, 2024, will enhance communication coverage in Tanjung Asam and nearby areas, including Pantai Tanjung Manis and Pantai Teluk Kumbar. The tower will support all major communication service providers, including YTLC, CelcomDigi, Maxis, U Mobile, and Telekom Malaysia (TM), improving both public safety and recreational access.

With the new infrastructure, emergency reporting will become faster and more efficient, addressing previous challenges in emergency response, such as drowning incidents. This initiative is part of the state’s commitment to bridging the digital divide and expanding communication coverage to all populated areas, aligned with the Penang2030 Vision of creating a smart, green, and liveable Penang.
