Apple is reportedly developing a suite of innovative health features for its next-generation AirPods Pro, potentially launching with AirPods Pro 3. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the company is focused on integrating sensors for heart-rate monitoring, temperature measurement, and additional physiological metrics.
Early internal tests suggest the heart-rate sensor offers promising accuracy, rivaling even the Apple Watch. While a release timeline remains uncertain, Gurman indicates these features could begin rolling out in the next few years. In addition to health advancements, Apple has also revived its plans to incorporate cameras into AirPods, driven by its growing focus on AI.
This initiative, now prioritized by Apple’s AI and AirPods hardware teams, aims to unlock new AI-driven functionalities. However, this technology remains in the early development phase and is unlikely to debut for several years. Apple’s recent firmware updates for AirPods Pro 2, which introduced hearing health features and FDA-certified hearing aid functionality, underscore the company’s shift toward health-oriented technology.
Expanding these capabilities to AirPods would offer users without an Apple Watch access to health-monitoring tools, further enhancing the ecosystem’s appeal.
