GEORGE TOWN, December 27 — The Penang Chingay Parade 2024 will light up the streets of George Town on December 28, celebrating the city’s rich cultural heritage with vibrant performances and a new photography contest. Starting at Padang Brown and concluding with a grand finale at Padang Kota Lama, the parade features Chingay flag performances, dragon and lion dances, traditional dances, and interactive activities to immerse visitors in Penang’s traditions.
The highlight this year is a photography contest encouraging attendees to capture the event’s essence and share on social media with the hashtag #PenangChingay2024. Winners will receive RM688 and have their photos featured in a commemorative publication, reinforcing Penang’s push for UNESCO recognition of Chingay as an intangible cultural heritage.
