PETALING JAYA, December 30 – The Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) has announced that the Solar for Rakyat Incentive Scheme (Solaris), which provides cash rebates for residential solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, will be extended until April 30, 2025. This extension, part of the ministry’s ongoing efforts to promote renewable energy, aims to encourage greater adoption of solar energy among Malaysians.
The scheme offers rebates of up to RM4,000 and is open to eligible homeowners who join the Net Energy Metering (NEM) programme. In addition to the rebate extension, PETRA has introduced improvements to the NEM programme. The guidelines now allow existing users to increase the capacity of their solar systems and transition to the latest terms of the programme. A 150 MW increase in the residential quota brings the total to 600 MW, while the commercial and industrial sector’s quota is raised by 300 MW to a total of 1,700 MW.
The programme has also been expanded to include agricultural users, promoting food security alongside clean energy adoption. Applications for the NEM quota will remain open until June 30, 2025, or until the allocated quotas are filled. The updated guidelines and extended Solaris scheme will take effect on January 1, 2025, as Malaysia continues its commitment to achieving a 70% renewable energy share in the national electricity supply by 2050.
