KUALA LUMPUR, January 1 — Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng has expressed concern over UMNO’s decision to collaborate with PAS for a solidarity rally supporting Najib Razak on January 6, calling it a potential threat to political stability and public confidence in the unity government. The event coincides with a Court of Appeal hearing that could determine if Najib may serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest.
Lim criticized recent remarks by UMNO Youth Chief Muhammad Akmal Saleh questioning Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s 2018 royal pardon, calling it a direct challenge to the authority of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the legitimacy of Anwar’s leadership. He urged the Prime Minister to take appropriate measures to restore public trust in the unity government, emphasizing that UMNO’s actions risk undermining the coalition’s stability and credibility.
