PETALING JAYA, January 4 — The study and design phase for Penang’s Juru-Sungai Dua Elevated Highway project is underway, with completion anticipated within a year, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow announced today. The RM2.7 billion traffic dispersal initiative, aimed at alleviating congestion on the North-South Expressway, will enter the construction phase afterward, expected to span at least five years.

Chow noted that funding for consultancy and preliminary work has been allocated for this year, with PLUS Malaysia Bhd likely involved in the project given its jurisdiction over the expressway. The elevated highway is part of several major initiatives for Penang announced in Budget 2025, which also include the Penang LRT, Penang International Airport expansion, and Batu Kawan 3 Industrial Park.
