PUTRAJAYA, January 6 — Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s legal team presented a letter in court today purportedly issued by the Pahang palace, affirming a “supplementary order” that would allow the former prime minister to serve the remainder of his jail sentence under house arrest. Lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah submitted the unsigned letter, dated January 4, as part of Najib’s bid to adduce additional evidence in the Court of Appeal.

The letter, attributed to Datuk Ahmad Khirrizal Ab Rahman, the Comptroller of the Royal Household of the Sultan of Pahang, was addressed to Najib’s son, Datuk Muhammad Nizar. It reportedly confirmed a January 29, 2024 supplementary decree by then-Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah. However, a signed version of the letter has surfaced online, after being shared by Umno Youth chief Dr. Akmal Saleh on Facebook, intensifying scrutiny over its authenticity and implications.
