PUTRAJAYA, January 7 — Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s counsel, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, submitted a letter purportedly issued by the Pahang palace, affirming a “supplementary order” from the former Yang di-Pertuan Agong. This order, dated January 29, 2024, allegedly allows Najib to serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest.
The letter, addressed to Najib’s son Datuk Muhammad Nizar and issued by the Sultan of Pahang’s Comptroller of the Royal Household, was presented as additional evidence in Najib’s ongoing appeal. Muhammad Shafee emphasized the letter’s authenticity, stating it confirmed the Pahang Ruler’s decree. He argued that the unsigned copy of the supplementary order, obtained in August 2024 but only recently permitted for use in court, highlights efforts to secure crucial evidence.
Najib seeks a judicial review of the Kuala Lumpur High Court’s decision to dismiss his case and aims to compel the government to validate the alleged royal decree. Najib is currently serving a six-year prison sentence for his SRC International Sdn Bhd conviction, with his initial sentence reduced following a royal pardon in 2022.
