GEORGE TOWN, January 9 — Penang police uncovered a drug trafficking and processing operation in a forest near Cangkat Bukit Gambir, seizing heroin worth RM51,370. A 47-year-old local man was arrested during the raid conducted by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (JSJN).

Timur Laut district police chief ACP Abdul Rozak Muhammad said the suspect, detained in a forest toilet, tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine and has a history of 10 criminal and drug-related offenses. The raid also uncovered equipment used for drug processing and a box containing 5,351 grams of heroin.

Authorities believe the syndicate began operations in December 2024, with the seized drugs capable of supplying up to 26,755 doses. The suspect has been remanded for seven days and is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
