BUKIT MERTAJAM, January 12 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today announced a federal allocation of over RM20 million for 63 Chinese independent schools across Malaysia. This year’s funding includes RM19.84 million for 62 schools nationwide and an additional RM1 million dedicated to Jit Sin Independent High School in Bukit Mertajam.
Anwar emphasized that the allocation reflects the government’s recognition of Chinese independent schools’ contributions to the nation’s education system. “We appreciate their commitment to adapting their curriculum while respecting the national language and elevating the dignity of the people as a whole,” he said during a visit to Jit Sin Independent High School.
This follows last year’s RM18.9 million allocation, distributed equally among the 63 schools. During his visit, Anwar also shared personal memories of his time as a substitute Malay language teacher at Jit Sin, recalling it as a formative experience before he pursued his studies at Universiti Malaya.
