PUTRAJAYA, January 15 — Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has urged the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) to reassess the charges against him in the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) case. Najib’s appeal comes after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim acknowledged on December 21 that several high-profile prosecutions in 2018 were flawed and driven by “venom and enmity.” Najib contends that his trial was rushed and politically motivated, arguing that the charges were filed even before his statement was recorded, raising questions about fairness.

Najib emphasized the need for a comprehensive review by the AGC to address the alleged systemic flaws, stating that such action would strengthen public confidence in the integrity of Malaysia’s legal system. He described the review as a significant step toward ensuring justice, especially in light of Anwar’s acknowledgment of political bias in past prosecutions. Najib, who has read 692 pages of his witness statement, will continue his testimony tomorrow in the trial presided over by Judge Datuk Collin Lawrence Sequerah.
