BATU KAWAN, January 17 — HP Malaysia Manufacturing (HPMM) has officially launched its new Manufacturing Transformation Center in Penang, a state-of-the-art facility aimed at driving Industry 4.0 advancements and fostering sustainable manufacturing practices. The 4,639-square-foot facility is a cornerstone of HP’s commitment to innovation, leveraging robotics, Industrial IoT, predictive analytics, and additive manufacturing to enhance global supply chain efficiency and support Malaysia’s vision of industrial transformation under initiatives like Industry4WRD and the New Industrial Master Plan 2030.
Alex Tan, Managing Director of HP Inc. Malaysia, described the center as a testament to HP’s leadership in digital transformation and sustainable practices. “This facility embodies our mission to accelerate innovation, improve operational excellence, and prepare for the challenges of tomorrow. It represents not just HP’s future-ready strategy but also Penang’s growing reputation as a global hub for advanced manufacturing and the Micro Electrical Mechanical System (MEMS) sector,” Tan said.
The center incorporates sustainable features, such as solar photovoltaic arrays, which generate 2,720 MWh annually and reduce the facility’s greenhouse gas emissions, aligning with HP’s global goals of achieving carbon neutrality and zero waste by 2025. HPMM’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond energy efficiency. The site has established a Zero Waste Operations Team, which diverts approximately 35,000 kg of waste from landfills annually.
Additionally, the facility achieved a Platinum-level score in the Responsible Business Alliance (RBA) Validated Assessment Program reflecting its high standards in labor practices, health and safety, and environmental compliance. These efforts underscore HP’s dedication to aligning with Malaysia’s sustainability goals, including the Roadmap Towards Zero Single-Use Plastics 2018–2030.
Dominic Chew, General Manager of HPMM, emphasized the facility’s dual focus on innovation and workforce development. “HPMM is not only a global manufacturing hub for HP but also a training ground for local talent,” he said. Through the HP SPARK programme, HPMM collaborates with educational institutions like USM, INTI, and UOW-KDU to equip young Malaysians with critical skills in robotics, automation, and sustainable manufacturing.
“We are not just shaping careers; we are empowering the next generation to lead Malaysia’s industrial transformation,” Chew added, highlighting HPMM’s 1,200-strong workforce composed entirely of Malaysian talent. The launch event celebrated HPMM’s remarkable journey since its establishment in 2016, during which it has become a key player in HP’s global manufacturing ecosystem, producing inkjet supplies for 175 countries.
The center also serves as a platform for collaboration between the government, academia, and industry, further solidifying Malaysia’s position as a leader in advanced manufacturing. Guests were invited to explore the new labs and witness demonstrations of cutting-edge technologies, showcasing HP’s ongoing efforts to drive innovation, sustainability, and community impact in Malaysia.
