LONDON, January 19 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has lauded Tenaga Nasional Bhd’s (TNB) efforts in renewable energy (RE), emphasizing that its ventures in the United Kingdom will significantly benefit Malaysia through technology transfer and expertise development. Speaking at the launch of TNB’s 102-megawatt Eastfield and Bunkers Hill solar farms, Anwar highlighted Malaysia’s active pursuit of RE investments amid robust economic growth and Southeast Asia’s energy transition.
The Prime Minister also underscored the importance of regional energy cooperation through initiatives like the ASEAN Power Grid, aiming to integrate Thai and Lao energy grids and export Sarawak’s hydroelectric power to Singapore. Commending TNB for its role in advancing Malaysia’s energy transition roadmap, Anwar stated, “TNB’s investments exemplify national commitment, requiring research and innovation to unlock new renewable energy opportunities.”
