KUALA LUMPUR, January 25 – Malaysia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) under the Malaysia MADANI Artificial Intelligence (MMAI) Initiative, focusing on harnessing AI technologies to combat crime, deter terrorism, and enhance public safety. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim described the agreement as a milestone in leveraging technology for societal benefit.

The MoU was signed by Malaysia’s Minister of Home Affairs Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and UAE Minister of Investment HE Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi. The partnership aims to integrate advanced data analytics and high-performance computing into efforts to build safer communities. Anwar noted that this collaboration sets a global benchmark for using technology as a force for good, as both nations prepare to lead ASEAN and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in 2025.

As part of the agreement, Malaysia and UAE will use platforms like the ASEAN-GCC Economic Forum to connect policymakers, industry leaders, and innovators to address complex global challenges. “Together, our two nations are advancing security, innovation, and shared prosperity, setting a global standard for technology-driven solutions,” Anwar stated.
