KUALA LUMPUR, January 27 – This Lunar New Year, travel is flourishing with families and friends embracing extended vacations and exploring lesser-known destinations. Trip.com Group reports a 10% increase in average stay durations across the Asia-Pacific, fueled by strategic use of public holidays. Malaysia has seen a 118% surge in outbound bookings compared to last year, with Thailand, Japan, and mainland China among the top destinations.
Domestically, Malaysia remains a popular choice for inbound travelers, particularly from China, where bookings from cities like Changsha and Qingdao have soared. This year, a significant shift toward unique travel experiences is evident. Travelers are venturing to destinations such as Giza, San Luis Obispo, and Charenton-le-Pont, while family-oriented trips are also on the rise. Cruises have seen triple-digit growth in bookings, with ports like Shanghai and Phuket leading in popularity.
Premium travel options, including 4- and 5-star hotels and business-class flights, have also gained momentum, signaling a growing trend of blending luxury with meaningful cultural experiences.
