KUALA LUMPUR, January 28 — Job scams are on the rise in Malaysia, targeting jobseekers through fraudulent offers and sophisticated schemes. According to Jobstreet by SEEK, common scams include cryptocurrency fraud, money mule recruitment, identity theft, and impersonation tactics. These schemes not only result in financial losses but also expose victims to severe legal and personal risks.
Jobstreet has implemented measures to combat these issues, including rigorous employer screening, data protection, and advanced threat monitoring. In 2024, the platform flagged over 10% of 4.9 million job advertisements for investigation and removed more than 1,200 fraudulent postings. “Scammers exploit the urgency of jobseekers, causing harm and discouraging further job searches,” said Jobstreet Malaysia’s Managing Director, Nicholas Lam, emphasizing the importance of awareness and vigilance.
