KUALA LUMPUR, January 28 — The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is in discussions with Microsoft to assess LinkedIn’s compliance with the criteria for obtaining an Application Service Provider (ASP) Class Licence. Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil revealed that LinkedIn has over eight million users in Malaysia as of Q1 2025, prompting regulatory engagement with its parent company, Microsoft.

Fahmi also shared updates on ongoing licensing discussions with platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and YouTube. Meanwhile, Meta is in the final stages of completing its licence application, with just one document pending submission. He noted that Telegram recently became the third platform, after TikTok and WeChat, to secure an ASP licence, reflecting Malaysia’s broader efforts to regulate social media platforms effectively.
