GEORGE TOWN, January 28 — Perbadanan Bekalan Air Pulau Pinang (PBAPP) has assured the public that Penang’s water supply system is fully prepared to meet the increased demand during the Chinese New Year 2025 festivities, beginning January 29. Key infrastructure, including the Sungai Muda river and major dams, is operating optimally, with sufficient reserves and fully functional water treatment plants producing 1,210.9 million liters of treated water daily.
Emergency response teams comprising 200 personnel and 10 water tankers are on standby 24/7 to address any unforeseen disruptions. The Sungai Dua Water Treatment Plant, the state’s largest, is producing an average of 1,021.2 MLD of treated water, which supports areas across Seberang Perai and Penang Island. Other plants, including Bukit Toh Allang, Bukit Panchor, and facilities in Air Itam, Bukit Bendera, Guillemard, and Waterfall, are also operating at full capacity.
With the Air Itam, Teluk Bahang, and Expanded Mengkuang Dams reporting effective capacities of 75.2%, 60.3%, and 90.3% respectively, water reserves are sufficient for the season.
