IPOH, February 4 — Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) may not open the positions of President and Deputy President for contest in its upcoming party elections in May, according to PKR International Bureau Chairman Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin.
He stated that the proposal stems from internal discussions and previous consultations, with the primary aim of maintaining party stability ahead of the next general election in two years. While no official decision has been made, party leadership is prioritizing governance and public service over internal competition.
Shamsul Iskandar, who also serves as Senior Political Secretary to the Prime Minister, made the remarks during a “Back to School” event in Tambun. His statement follows PKR Secretary-General Dr. Fuziah Salleh’s January 26 announcement that the party elections for the Central Leadership Council (MPP), Women’s Central Leadership Council, and Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) Central Leadership Council will be held on May 24 for the 2025-2028 term.
