KUALA LUMPUR, February 5 — Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain has initiated committal proceedings against blogger Wan Azri Wan Deris, also known as Papagomo, for allegedly defying a court injunction by continuing to publish defamatory content on social media. Razarudin’s lawyer, S Raam Kumar, confirmed that an ex-parte leave application to cite Wan Azri for contempt has been scheduled for hearing before judicial commissioner Gan Techiong on February 10.
The proceedings stem from a defamation suit Razarudin filed in December, seeking damages and an injunction to prevent further defamatory statements linking him to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Despite a High Court order issued earlier this month instructing Wan Azri to remove the defamatory content, the blogger has maintained his stance, arguing that, as a public officer, Razarudin should be open to criticism.
In his defense, Wan Azri claims he does not control the social media accounts in question and is relying on the defences of justification and fair comment under Malaysia’s defamation laws. Meanwhile, Razarudin has demanded a full retraction, an apology, and the removal of the statements from all platforms. The case continues to unfold as legal proceedings move forward.
