IPOH, February 5 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called for calm following an egg-pelting incident at the Malaysian embassy in Jakarta, sparked by a maritime altercation involving Indonesian nationals. He assured that Malaysia would conduct a transparent and thorough investigation into the case, reaffirming the country’s commitment to upholding the rule of law.

Anwar emphasized that Malaysia’s strong diplomatic ties with Indonesia should not be affected by the incident. The incident, which resulted in one death and four injuries, has been linked to alleged illegal smuggling activities. While Indonesian authorities have called for a probe into the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) for possible excessive force, Anwar stressed the importance of enforcing strict border control while ensuring lawful action.

He also urged Indonesia to address concerns over smuggling and human trafficking between both nations. A preliminary report will be submitted to the Indonesian Embassy as part of Malaysia’s commitment to transparency.
