ALOR GAJAH, February 6 — The Malaysian government is set to finalize the acquisition of 30 used F/A-18C/D Hornet fighter jets from the Kuwait Air Force (KAF) this year, pending the completion of documentation between Kuwait and the United States, Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari announced. He confirmed that discussions are in their final stages following KAF’s approval, with both parties agreeing in principle to expedite the procurement process.
Adly emphasized that the acquisition aims to bolster the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) fleet and enhance national defense capabilities. Speaking at a Hi-Tea event honoring Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) veterans, he stated that purchasing used fighter jets is a strategic decision, avoiding the long waiting period associated with acquiring new aircraft while ensuring operational effectiveness for years to come.
