KUALA LUMPUR, February 8 — The federal government is open to considering either a light rail transit (LRT) or an autonomous rapid transit (ART) system to connect with the Johor Baru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link, according to Johor’s state executive councillor for works, transportation, and infrastructure, Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh. Despite earlier agreements on an ART system, Putrajaya has requested proposals from companies in the second quarter of this year to evaluate the best option.

Fazli emphasized that the selected project aims to be completed within two years to align with the RTS Link’s opening, easing congestion at Bukit Chagar station. The initiative could be privately funded or executed through a public-private partnership, with potential bidders including EPE Power Corp Bhd and a consortium led by LBS Bina Group Bhd. If approved, the LRT network would become Malaysia’s third, following systems in the Klang Valley and Penang.
