SHAH ALAM, February 9 — The Malaysian government is assessing the impact of China’s open-source AI platform, DeepSeek, and exploring ways to adapt it for local use, Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo announced. He noted that DeepSeek’s rapid rise, reportedly rivaling established AI models like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, has prompted serious consideration of its potential role in Malaysia’s digital landscape.

Gobind emphasized the importance of staying ahead in AI advancements, stating that the government will evaluate how DeepSeek fits into the nation’s technological development. Speaking after a briefing on a temple digital management system, he highlighted the growing influence of AI innovations and the need for Malaysia to strategically adapt to these evolving technologies.
