GEORGE TOWN, February 11 – Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow has extended his warmest wishes to the Hindu community in conjunction with the Thaipusam celebrations, emphasizing the state’s commitment to unity, cultural diversity, and progressive development. Speaking at KOMTAR, he acknowledged Thaipusam’s significance not only as a religious occasion but also as a key event that attracts both local and international visitors to Penang. He reiterated the state’s role as a symbol of harmony where cultural heritage thrives alongside rapid modernization.
Chow highlighted Penang’s ongoing efforts to ensure inclusive economic and social development, particularly benefiting the Indian community. Initiatives span across manufacturing, investment, business, and agrotechnology sectors, with a strong emphasis on equitable progress. He also noted the success of direct flights between Chennai and Penang, which led to a 51.43% increase in Indian tourist arrivals. This, he said, would further boost Penang’s position as a premier heritage tourism destination, especially in preparation for Visit Malaysia Year 2026.
Expressing gratitude for the Indian community’s contributions, the Chief Minister called for continued collaboration to achieve balanced development. He emphasized that mutual support across all communities remains vital for Penang’s sustained prosperity.
