KUALA LUMPUR, February 14 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged for enhanced English proficiency among secondary school students, emphasizing the need for swift and effective policy implementation in the education sector. Speaking at the Ministry of Finance’s Monthly Assembly, he stressed that while Bahasa Melayu remains vital, mastering English is crucial for Malaysia’s global competitiveness.
Anwar criticized the sluggish pace of policy execution, highlighting that reforms should be implemented within a year rather than the conventional multi-year timeline. He reaffirmed the government’s broader commitment to institutional reforms, public service improvements, and governance.
Previously, Anwar had also encouraged Malaysians to master multiple languages, particularly English and Mandarin, to boost the nation’s economic and global positioning.
