PUTRAJAYA, February 24 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that a proposal to streamline government agencies and address overlapping functions will soon be presented to the Cabinet. The initiative, spearheaded by former Treasury Secretary-General Datuk Seri Asri Hamidon, aims to enhance efficiency and cut unnecessary expenditures.

Anwar emphasized that the decision would only be finalized after thorough Cabinet discussions. Additionally, Anwar reiterated that government agencies must seek high-level approval before establishing new companies, as many have been recording losses. He underscored the importance of institutional reforms to improve governance and financial management.

At the Ministry of Finance gathering, he also launched the Federal Government Electronic Payment System (iPayment), a key step towards digitizing public sector transactions.
