KUALA LUMPUR, February 24 — Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow has confirmed his candidacy for the upcoming Democratic Action Party (DAP) Central Executive Committee (CEC) elections on March 16. Speaking at an event in Butterworth, Chow stated that he had been nominated and would be vying for a position in the 18th DAP National Congress.
A long-serving DAP vice-chairman since 2004, Chow previously opted out of the state party elections last September but remains committed to contributing at the national level. Chow explained that the CEC election process involves electing 30 committee members, from which key office bearers, including the national chairman, secretary, deputy chairman, and vice-chairmen, will be selected.
While speculation surrounds his potential candidacy for the party chairmanship, currently held by Lim Guan Eng, Chow refrained from commenting on leadership roles, stating that decisions will be made after the election results on March 16. Meanwhile, four senior leaders—Tan Kok Wai, Fong Kui Lun, Phee Boon Poh, and M. Kula Segaran—have withdrawn from the race, citing the need for leadership renewal within the party.
