GEORGE TOWN, February 28 – Penang’s tourism sector has seen a significant boost, with Taiwanese arrivals increasing by 19.34% from 35,223 visitors in 2023 to 42,035 in 2024. Recognizing Taiwan as Penang’s fourth-largest international tourist market after Indonesia, Singapore, and China, the Office of Penang State Executive Councillor for Tourism and Creative Economy (PETACE), in collaboration with Penang Global Tourism (PGT), recently led a travel roadshow to Taichung and Kaohsiung to further strengthen ties and promote Penang as a preferred destination.

Beyond promoting the state’s attractions, the delegation also engaged in strategic discussions with leading Taiwanese airlines—China Airlines, Tigerair Taiwan, Starlux Airlines, and HK Express—to explore the possibility of direct flights between Taiwan and Penang. With efforts underway to enhance connectivity and introduce more tailored travel experiences, Penang aims to solidify its position as a top destination for Taiwanese tourists.
