GEORGE TOWN, March 1 – Penang’s renowned Chingay Parade captivated international audiences at the 2025 Singapore Chingay Parade, showcasing its high-pole flag-waving tradition in a dazzling performance. Led by Penang State EXCO for Tourism and Creative Economy Wong Hon Wai, a 20-member Penang delegation participated in the grand event on February 7 and 8, reinforcing cultural ties between Malaysia and Singapore.
With efforts underway to nominate Chingay for UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list, Wong emphasized the significance of cross-border collaboration. The delegation also unveiled a newly designed flag featuring Penang’s iconic street food and the slogan “Road to UNESCO,” symbolizing the shared commitment to preserving this cultural heritage.
Moving forward, Penang will continue strengthening ties with Johor and Singapore to advance the nomination process, ensuring Chingay’s legacy remains vibrant for generations to come.
