KUALA LUMPUR, March 2 – Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu has warned that climate change is threatening Malaysia’s food security, with erratic weather and rising temperatures affecting agricultural production.

Speaking in Phnom Penh, he highlighted that Malaysia’s paddy production has declined from 71% to 56%, while 20,000 hectares of paddy land have been converted for housing. He stressed the importance of regional cooperation to ensure food stability, particularly with key rice exporters like Cambodia, which currently supplies 50,000 metric tonnes of fragrant rice to Malaysia annually.
