BAYAN LEPAS, March 3 – Advanced Semiconductor Engineering, Inc. (ASE) has officially launched its fifth plant in Penang, significantly enhancing its chip packaging and testing capabilities. The expansion increases ASE Malaysia’s facility space from 1 million to approximately 3.4 million square feet, reinforcing Penang’s status as a global semiconductor hub.
Equipped with smart manufacturing technologies and AI-driven automation, the new plant is designed to optimize production efficiency and meet the surging demand for next-generation applications, including generative AI, edge computing, and autonomous vehicles. Penang Deputy Chief Minister II, Jagdeep Singh Deo, highlighted the state’s long-standing industrial excellence, positioning it as the “Silicon Valley of the East.” Meanwhile, MIDA Deputy CEO Sivasuriyamoorthy Sundara Raja emphasized the importance of industry collaboration to drive Malaysia’s technological growth.
ASE Inc. CEO, Dr. Tien Wu, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to expanding its global footprint, leveraging Malaysia’s strategic position in the semiconductor supply chain. With the semiconductor market projected to reach US$1 trillion in the next decade, ASE’s investment will not only strengthen its service offerings but also create 1,500 new job opportunities, further boosting the local economy.
