KUALA LUMPUR, March 5 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on highly profitable companies to increase workers’ wages, highlighting the disconnect between productivity gains and stagnant salariesamid rising inflation. Addressing the Dewan Rakyat, he urged businesses to act fairly and warned against excessive profits at the expense of employees’ well-being.

While the Minimum Wage Order (MWO) now mandates a minimum RM1,700 salary, Anwar emphasized progressive wage schemes and moral suasion, particularly among government-linked investment companies (GLICs), to set a higher standard. Acknowledging SMEs’ challenges, he assured government support through capital, expertise, and upskilling initiatives, reinforcing Malaysia’s commitment to fair wages and economic resilience.
