KUALA LUMPUR, March 7– Trip.com Group has released its latest report, Momentum 2025: Travel’s Next Big Trends, revealing key insights into Malaysia’s evolving travel landscape. Based on a survey of over 6,000 travellers across six Asia-Pacific markets, the report highlights growing trends such as food-inspired tourism, media-driven travel, and immersive experiences.
Notably, 78% of Malaysian travellers prioritize food festivals, while 91% say their travel choices are influenced by movies and digital content—the highest in the region. Cruise tourism is also gaining traction, with 72% citing scenic sea views as a top motivation, and entertainment tourism is booming, as 66% plan trips around concerts and live sporting events.
Social media remains a powerful travel influencer, with Malaysia ranking second in Asia-Pacific for travel decisions shaped by viral content. Platforms like TikTok and Instagram are driving interest in destinations such as Bali, Tokyo, and Seoul. Emerging micro-trends include underwater hotel stays (43%), dark sky stargazing (35%), and cultural immersion stays (35%), reflecting a shift toward unique and experiential travel.
