KUALA LUMPUR, March 8 – Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail refuted allegations that the Madani government is arbitrarily enforcing the Sedition Act 1948, emphasizing that investigation figures have remained consistent since 2015. Speaking during the Royal Address debate in Dewan Rakyat, he highlighted that only three years—2015, 2020, and 2023—saw investigations exceeding 100 cases, contradicting claims of selective prosecution.
He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to peaceful assembly rights, noting that 99% of 7,000 assembly notifications in 2023 proceeded without obstruction. Additionally, he revealed that Malaysia’s Visa Liberalisation Plan for China and India contributed over RM20 billion in tourist spending, with enhanced security measures ensuring visitor safety.
