GEORGE TOWN, March 11 – The Consumers’ Association of Penang (CAP) has called on Malaysians to embrace the true spirit of Ramadhan by minimizing food and plastic waste, highlighting concerns over excessive consumption during the fasting month. With Malaysia generating an estimated 75,000 tonnes of food waste during Ramadhan, CAP urges the public to buy food responsibly, store leftovers properly, and support donation initiatives.

The association also commends efforts to curb plastic waste at bazaars, advocating for reusable containers and sustainable packaging. As landfills overflow with food and plastic waste, CAP stresses that responsible consumption is essential to preserving the environment while upholding the values of gratitude and self-discipline during Ramadhan.
