GEORGE TOWN, March 14 – Rapid Penang On-Demand Service, previously known as Demand Response Transit (DRT), will expand to Paya Terubong starting 15 March 2025, further improving public transport accessibility. State Assemblyman Wong Hon Wai announced the expansion after a meeting with Rapid Bus Northern Region Head, Mohd Amir Abdul Halim.
Currently, two vans operate in Farlim and Air Itam, but the expansion will add two more vans to these areas and introduce one van specifically for Paya Terubong, bringing the total to five vans in the constituency. Residents can book rides via the Kummute app for RM1 per ride, with ridership currently reaching 150 to 175 passengers daily in Farlim and Air Itam.
Wong also urged Rapid Bus to consider extending the service to Relau, potentially integrating it with Bayan Baru in the future. The Rapid Penang On-Demand Service is expected to benefit the Farlim and Paya Terubong communities, complementing existing Rapid Bus services. More details are available at www.myrapid.com.my.
