SHAH ALAM, March 16 – DAP national chairman Lim Guan Eng has reaffirmed that the party will not act as a “yes-man” in the government, emphasizing its loyalty to voters and the nation. Speaking at DAP’s 18th national congress, Lim reiterated the party’s unwavering support for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, stating that this stance has remained unchanged since Lim Kit Siang’s leadership to the current tenure of Loke Siew Fook.
While acknowledging the government’s progress in political and institutional reforms, he urged for faster economic measures to honor the trust of Pakatan Harapan supporters. Lim also raised concerns over external economic threats, particularly potential tariff policies under former US President Donald Trump, which could negatively impact Malaysia’s SMEs. He called for additional financial assistance for affected businesses and a delay in financial policies that could impose extra burdens.
The congress, held at the IDCC Ideal Convention Centre, saw 4,203 delegates voting for 30 new members to the Central Executive Committee (CEC), who will determine the party’s leadership for the 2025-2028 term.
