KUALA LUMPUR, March 16 – George Town, Kuala Lumpur, and Johor Baru have been selected for the initial rollout of Malaysia’s proposed congestion charge, pending a study by the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research and the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Dr Zaliha Mustafa stated that the study will assess traffic reduction potential and public transport impact, with completion expected this year. She emphasized that the charge must balance effectiveness without overburdening motorists and noted that implementation would only proceed alongside improvements to the public transportation system.
