KUALA LUMPUR, March 16 — Gobind Singh Deo has been named the new national chairman of the Democratic Action Party (DAP), succeeding party veteran Lim Guan Eng. The appointment was made by the party’s newly elected 30-member central executive committee (CEC) following its leadership elections today. Gobind, who secured the highest number of votes in the CEC polls, now takes on the top position as DAP moves into its next phase of leadership.
Lim, who managed to retain his seat in the CEC despite facing a campaign for his removal, will now serve as the party’s adviser, a position previously held by Tan Kok Wai. Tan, a longtime DAP leader, chose not to contest in this year’s elections. Lim had served as the party’s national chairman since 2022, following his 17-year tenure as DAP secretary-general.
Meanwhile, Anthony Loke Siew Fook will continue as DAP secretary-general for a second term, maintaining his role as the party’s most influential figure. The newly elected CEC also appointed Nga Kor Ming as deputy chairman, with five vice-chairpersons, including Chong Chieng Jen, Teo Nie Ching, Ng Suee Lim, Syahredzan Johan, and Arul Kumar. Other key positions were filled as part of the leadership transition.
Speaking at a press conference, Loke stated that the new CEC members took 30 minutes to deliberate on the lineup and that the final decisions were made unanimously. The party leadership now looks ahead to strengthening DAP’s position within the government and preparing for upcoming political challenges.
The appointments mark a significant transition for DAP, signaling a blend of continuity and renewal as the party strategizes for the years ahead.
