SHAH ALAM, March 16 – DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke has proposed a series of institutional reformsto strengthen the party’s internal structure, including changes to the candidate selection process and rules on honorary titles. Speaking at DAP’s 18th Congress, Loke highlighted the need for a transparent and fair evaluation system to manage competition within the party, which now boasts nearly 80 MPs and 100 assemblymen.
He also announced plans to institutionalize the candidate selection committee by embedding it into the party’s constitution to ensure legitimacy. Loke further addressed the party’s stance on honorary titles, advocating for a more flexible approach where nominations would be evaluated on a case-by-case basis by the Central Executive Committee (CEC). He emphasized the need to prevent a culture of title-seeking among new members while maintaining respect for the monarchy.
Additionally, Loke proposed appointing a permanent head of Parliament, a director of policy, and an election director, all of whom would be officially recognized in the party’s constitution. These reforms are expected to be finalized within 18 months for debate at DAP’s 2026 convention.
