GEORGE TOWN, March 17 — Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) continued their dominance in the 2024/25 Super League with a commanding 3-0 win over Penang FC at Stadium Bandaraya. Hector Bidoglio’s men took an early lead through two headed goals by Eddy Israfilov in the 20th and 27th minutes, leaving Penang’s goalkeeper Sikh Izhan Nazrel with little chance to make a save. Despite Penang’s attempts to break through JDT’s defense, the Southern Tigers remained resolute and controlled the game.
JDT had a golden opportunity to extend their lead in the 30th minute when the referee awarded a penalty following a handball by Richmond Ankrah. However, league top scorer Bergson da Silva saw his spot-kick saved brilliantly by Sikh Izhan, keeping Penang’s hopes alive. The missed penalty lifted the spirits of the home crowd, who cheered loudly as their team avoided conceding a third goal. Nevertheless, Penang struggled to mount a comeback, and the match ended 3-0 in favor of JDT.
With this victory, JDT further solidifies their position at the top of the league table, maintaining an impressive unbeaten run. The Southern Tigers now shift their focus to upcoming fixtures, including preparations for the Malaysia Cup final against Sri Pahang on April 12. Meanwhile, Penang FC will look to regroup and improve their form, having won just once in their last six league matches.
