GEORGE TOWN, March 18 – The Consumers’ Association of Penang (CAP) has welcomed the Penang Island City Council’s (MBPP) decision to increase parking charges by 50% and introduce parking time limits to ease congestion in high-traffic areas. CAP also highlighted the misuse of public parking spaces with obstructions like barrels and chairs, as well as illegal vehicle encroachments on pavements and bus stops.
While supporting the parking fee hike, CAP urges MBPP to prioritize improvements in public transportation, ensuring a reliable, affordable, and well-connected system to reduce private car dependency, alleviate congestion, and promote a greener Penang.
