PUTRAJAYA, March 26 – The Malaysian Cabinet has agreed in principle to amend the Finas Act 1981, with the bill expected to be tabled in Parliament by the end of the year, said Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. The amendments aim to modernize the Act in response to industry changes, ensuring greater support for film industry workers and adapting to evolving audience consumption trends.
The National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) will continue engagement sessions with stakeholders while drafting the bill, which may be tabled as early as the June parliamentary session. Fahmi also emphasized the importance of addressing contract job concerns and social security for creative industry workers, underscoring the government’s commitment to industry development.
