GEORGE TOWN, March 26 – The Penang state government has submitted a list of potential candidates for the position of Yang di-Pertua Negeri to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) for consideration. Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow confirmed that the list has been forwarded for submission to Istana Negara, with the final decision resting with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
The current governor, Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak, was appointed on May 1, 2021, and his tenure is set to end on April 30 this year. Chow stated that if the incumbent’s term is extended, it would be at the King’s discretion, but if not, a new appointment will be made in accordance with the state constitution.
He declined to disclose the number or identities of the proposed candidates, emphasizing that an official announcement would be made at the appropriate time. Speculation has arisen that former Perak Mentri Besar Tan Sri Ramli Ngah Talib is among those being considered for the role.
