KUALA LUMPUR, March 28 – Microsoft has reaffirmed its commitment to Malaysia’s digital transformation with the launch of its first hyperscale cloud region, Malaysia West, set to go live in the second quarter of 2025. Strategically located in Greater Kuala Lumpur, the new cloud region is expected to drive US$10.9 billion in new revenues and create 37,575 jobs by 2028, according to an IDC study commissioned by Microsoft.

The investment will enhance Malaysia’s cloud and AI ecosystem, providing organizations with secure, scalable, and efficient cloud solutions while meeting local data residency requirements. Beyond infrastructure, Microsoft is investing in talent development through initiatives like “AI for Malaysia’s Future,” aiming to equip 800,000 Malaysians with AI skills by the end of 2025.

“The Malaysia West cloud region is more than just a technological milestone—it is a key driver of economic growth and innovation,” said Laurence Si, Managing Director of Microsoft Malaysia. The initiative aligns with Microsoft’s broader vision of positioning Malaysia as a leading hub for cloud and AI in Southeast Asia, reinforcing the nation’s competitiveness in the global digital economy.
