KUALA LUMPUR, April 3 – The Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) is exploring immediate and long-term housing assistance for victims of the Putra Heights gas pipeline fire, which left 305 people displaced and 78 houses destroyed. Minister Nga Kor Ming affirmed KPKT’s commitment to working with the federal and Selangor governments, along with Petronas, to provide aid.

While victims are currently sheltered at Masjid Nurul Iman Puchong and Dewan Serbaguna Masjid Putra Heights, Nga stressed that rebuilding efforts will take time, and the ministry is assessing ways to expedite repair and reconstruction. Investigations into the cause of the fire, which also injured 125 people, are ongoing. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced immediate financial aid of RM5,000 for those who lost their homes and RM2,500 for those with partially damaged properties.

Firefighters and frontline responders were praised for their swift action, while places of worship, including Sri Maha Kaliamman Temple and local mosques, were commended for providing aid regardless of race or religion. KPKT continues to coordinate efforts to ensure affected families receive the necessary support as recovery efforts progress.
