Apple is set to adopt TSMC’s cutting-edge 2nm chip technology with next year’s iPhone 18 lineup, according to supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. The upcoming A20 chip will mark Apple’s first use of the 2nm process, promising improved performance and power efficiency.
This transition follows Apple’s gradual chip advancements, beginning with the 3nm A17 Pro in 2023 and this year’s iPhone 17 models using TSMC’s N3P, a third-generation 3nm process. TSMC claims its 2nm technology will deliver a 15% performance boost while maintaining the same power consumption, setting the stage for a new three-year chip cycle.
Recent reports indicate that TSMC’s 2nm trial production has already achieved high yields, signaling smooth progress ahead of mass production. While Apple’s plans for the M6 chip series in 2026 remain uncertain, the shift to 2nm in mobile devices underscores its ongoing commitment to pushing the boundaries of semiconductor innovation.
