BUTTERWORTH, April 4 – Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow has reassured the public that safety and environmental concerns will be carefully addressed in the construction of the North Coast Paired Road (NCPR) linking Tanjung Bungah and Teluk Bahang.
Responding to warnings from geotechnical experts and environmental groupsabout potential landslides and disruptions to natural water flow, Chow affirmed that technical experts and the concession company would consider fault lines, environmental risks, and hydrological impacts in the project’s design.
Critics, including Penang Hills Watch, Sahabat Alam Malaysia, and local residents, have urged for thorough environmental studies, citing past fatal landslides and concerns over hill-cutting, waterway disruptions, and human-wildlife conflicts.
The RM2.4 billion project, part of the Penang Transport Master Plan, is expected to be completed by 2031.
