PETALING JAYA, April 5 – The Selangor state government will provide over 100 temporary housing units for Putra Heights residents displaced by the recent gas pipeline fire, announced Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari. These units, available under the smart rental scheme, aim to provide urgent relief for affected families, with residents expected to move in within one to two weeks.
Discussions are ongoing to determine subsidy options, with the state considering a scheme where residents partially cover rental costs, while the federal government may subsidize the remainder. Currently, 1,254 people have been affected, with 630 victims seeking refuge in temporary relief centers. The disaster, caused by a Petronas gas pipeline leak, has left 87 homes completely destroyed and another 148 damaged.
The Selangor government is also in talks with Petronas to secure further assistance for those impacted, ensuring a structured relocation plan for affected families in the coming weeks.
